Shakespeare: His Marriage and Start of a Family

As William grew older, he married a woman by the name of “Anne Hathaway”. Her name isn’t fully known for sure, because the script on the marriage license isn’t very legible, but it is assumed that “Anne Whateley” was Anne Hathaway, for there was no record of an Anne Whateley in the town. William and Anne received their marriage license on November 27th, 1582 and were married on November 28th, 1582. William was eight years younger than Anne, but that didn't matter.

Shakespeare had three children total with Anne, a small number compared to the eight children his mother and father had. Susana was their first child, a young daughter. About two years after the birth of Susana, Hamnet and Judith were born; twins. All three children have recorded dates of christening, or baptism. Susana was baptised on May 26th, 1583, and Judith and Hamnet were baptised on February 2nd, 1585. After the birth of Judith and Hamnet, there isn’t much about Shakespeare’s life until 1592.

Shakespeare's Birth and Death

Shakespeare was born in April in the year 1564. The place of his birth was at his father's home Avon Warwickshire on Henley street in Stratford, England. William Shakespeare is the son of Jon and Mary Shakespeare and is known to have had seven siblings. Avon Warwickshire is where he is known to have lived the majority of his young life. While it is not known what he died of it is know that he died on April 23rd 1616 and his burial was two days later on the 25th his tomb is in a church at Stratford-upon-Avon. While some people think that his will was written more as something poetic it was a just like any other will and a legal document. Shakespeare left his estate to his eldest daughter Susanna and he left 300 pounds to his daughter Judith, in the will he left little to his wife by law she would get one third of the estate but all that is left to her is his second best bed and the furniture.

Accomplishments and Facts of Shakespeare

William Shakespeare has written many works. His first work that was officially published was "A Comedy of Errors". During his early maturity Will wrote some very renound plays, including Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, and Hamlet. In his mature years, he produced works such as Othello, and Macbeth. Some of his final works include The Winter's Tale, and The Tempest. Some facts: Shakespear was buried in the same church he was baptized in 52 years before. There are also rumors of an affair with the wife of the owner of the Crown Tavern in Oxford. Some say that the owners forth son, william, was Shakespears son.

Childhood/Schooling

William was the third son of Mary and John Shakespeare. Little is known of Shakespeare's childhood but we do know that he went to school. Shakespeare went to The King's New School, records of him have been lost but he must have went there because the school was made specifically for the son's of citizens. The curriculum consisted of learning the English alphabet but mostly learning and understanding the Latin language. The school day was most of the day and was six days a week, there were breaks for eating and such but mostly they were learning all day long. Teachers back then used something called a birch to punish students who misbehaved. The first thing Shakespeare would have used to read and write (or so experts have inferred) was something called a horn book. A horn book was a small wooden frame with a handle that had the alphabet and the Lord's pray on a piece of parchment protected by a layer of horn. Shakespeare himself was a religious man but his community was protestant. Shakespeare went to school of that we are sure but he did get taken out sometime because of his family's financial problems. Most of what experts know about Shakespear's childhood has been inferred from documents and his schooling.
